چکیده
In ref. (1), ‘‘A validated mathematical model of cell-mediated immune response to tumor growth’’, de Pillis et al. present a mathematical model describing the interactions between the immune cells, CD8 T-lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells. Differential equations are used to describe tumor-immune growth, response, and interaction rates. The parameters reflect general biological quantities: most values were provided by biology literature, whereas some of them were estimated using a least-squares method and validated on mice and human real data. The authors use the results of their simulations to conclude that tumor regression is more influenced by CD8 T cell activity than by NK cells. We tried to reproduce the results in ref. (1) with the same constants, but obtained different results. We explain this by the choice of initial conditions of the model. We use, as initial conditions, the healthy steady state (i.e., absence of tumor). In contrast, we could reproduce the results in ref. (1) only by taking initial conditions that were not biologically plausible. This changes the conclusion about the efficacy of NK cells.

متن کاملA validated mathematical model of cell-mediated immune response to tumor growth.
Mathematical models of tumor-immune interactions provide an analytic framework in which to address specific questions about tumor-immune dynamics. We present a new mathematical model that describes tumor-immune interactions, focusing on the role of natural killer (NK) and CD8+ T cells in tumor surveillance, with the goal of understanding the dynamics of immune-mediated tumor rejection. The mode...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling for Homogeneous Tumor with Delay in Time
Due to the properties of tumor cell, the tumor establishes itself in the organ and grows there, so there is a competition between the tumor cells and host cell (normal cells) for nutrients. Evidences show that high dietary phosphorus increases the rate of protein synthesis and thus the cell number. So, other than oxygen, sulfur, the important element that both tumor cells and normal cells need ...

Background: Noradrenaline (NA), the principal neurotransmitter released from sympathetic nerve terminals, influences T-cell maturation, not only directly in developing T cells, but also indirectly, by acting on the thymic nonlymphoid cells. In vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated the anti-proliferative, anti-migratory, antiangiogenic and cytotoxic properties of propranolol, β-AR blocker,...
متن کاملTriple tandem mimotope peptide of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor displaying on the surface of M13 phage induces anti-tumor response in mice tumor model
Introduction: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been shown to play a critical role in tumor cell growth and its overexpression has been observed in many epithelial tumors. In the field of cancer vaccine research, displaying the peptide mimotope on the surface of phage particles has shown promising results. Methods: In this study using m13-PVIII phage display system, two constructs we...
